Hugo is a director and producer originally from Scone, NSW, where he made his first feature film, Collect Your Roadkill (2021), with Alessio Mazza, who together co-directed, wrote, edited, and produced the no-budget feature. On Collect Your Roadkill, he also wrote and produced the performance and soundtrack album. The film went on to win best feature at Belin Indie Film Festival and is now available on Apple TV.
After moving to Melbourne to study film. Hugo has since graduated with a bachelor’s degree in ‘Film and Television’ from Melbourne’s VCA. His graduating film ‘The Replacement Fish’, touring psychrock sharehouse culture, premiered on MIFF Play and then Brisbane International Film Festival, to St Kilda Film Festival. He has helmed his second feature film as a producer and cinematographer on ‘Mosquito’, a world first in low-budget 3D.
As a cinematographer, Hugo’s work has played at festivals and platforms across Australia, and he has led teams across Digital Cinema Cameras, 16mm, 3D, and Virtual Production.
Intwining music, art, and awkward people, Hugo explores the role of creation and perception as a recurring theme within ambitious and stylised films. Hugo is working on developing his directing solo feature debut and broadening collaborative relationships to shoot more films as a story-focused cinematographer.
